This ride is an initiative to send off those cyclists who are beginning their journey to New York City for the UN General Assembly on September 23rd. Since Mr. Ahmadinejad will be addressing the UN, by cycling a four-day journey to New York City, we intend to draw attention to the widespread and systematic human rights abuses that have, and still continue to take place in Iran.
We ask you to join us for the beginning of this momentous journey in Toronto to stand in solidarity with the people of Iran and condemn the violation of human rights worldwide. It is our global responsibility to unite for this important cause and show the world our opposition against violations of human rights.
We would like to use this opportunity to thank Solidarity with Iran colleagues for being the main organizers of the Saturday Departure Day event at the University of Toronto. You have gone the extra miles to support us and we will cycle the few hundred miles to NYC on your behalf too. Thank You!

T.O. love for CHRI
Over the past months Toronto has embraced CHRI and showed us much love, this is a little snippet edited down from one of our volunteer’s email about their fund raising at Toronto International Film Festival:
Before the screening you would see people in green t-shirts, scarves and some wristbands. So many also took our green wristbands while talking to us. The amazing part was when the presenter introduced “ The Green Day” asking who was green in that theatre almost every one in the hall raised their hands wearing green wristbands. Unfortunately we couldn’t take a picture, it was a great moment to see our cause bringing such a moment. Every single person who had those wristband got to know about our cause and we had invited every single person we talked to the Saturday event.
– Bahareh
All more reason for you to join us this Saturday, ride with us a short distance and send the cyclists off for their trip to NewYork.
This Magazine on CHRI
This Magazine has written about CHRI and used an interview Q&A done by Ali K Bangi to complete the article.
We use cycling as a tool to raise awareness. Cycling from Toronto to New York is kind of a mental and physical challenge that we believe is kind of similar to those facing many Iranian students, activists and political leaders that have been imprisoned for exercising their right to freedom of expression and assembly, which are both recognized rights by Iran’s constitution and the universal human rights. Cycling also keeps us together. – From the Article
