NO CAPITAL PUNISHMENT
The right to life and the right not to be subjected to cruel, inhumane, and degrading treatments or punishments are recognized in the Universal Declaration of Human Rights, other international human rights instruments, and many national constitutions. Since 2004, Iran accounts for 73% of all juvenile executions worldwide. In 2009, Iran executed two juvenile offenders: Javad Shojaei on 26 February and Mohammad Hassanzadeh on 10 June. Cycling for Human Rights in Iran (CHRI) believes that the death penalty is the ultimate denial of human rights.
While CHRI believes that the abolishing of capital punishment is a gaining ground for the implementation of human rights in Iran, due to the urgency of the situation of four convicted minors who are to be executed in the next couple of months, CHRI has decided to focus on the cause of the juveniles on the death row. Juvenile executions are against international law, including the Convention on the Rights of the Child to which Iran is a party. This law requires an absolute prohibition on the death penalty for persons accused of crimes committed under the age of 18.
Although CHRI is against the principle of blood money as an exchange for human life, the act is believed to be the quickest way to save the lives of the children on the death row. Thus, CHRI is currently raising the blood money required to save the lives of these minors and to give them a second chance in life. The success of this cause would be impossible without your aid and support. Please donate to this cause and help us in saving these children from execution.
